Family ReEntry began in 1984 as a reentry support group for men in Bridgeport. FRE has grown to over twelve intervention, prevention, transition and reentry programs for currently or previously incarcerated clients and their families. Programs support and assist men, women and children at-risk. The cycle of crime and incarceration underlies the roots of poverty and underachievement in inner-city neighborhoods. Reductions in recidivism and re-offense resulting from Family ReEntry’s cost-effective programs have increased safety, improved quality of life, and reduced the financial burden on taxpayers.
Christ Church makes a huge difference in the lives of FRE’s clients by providing a grant to fund the “Champions” program, which provides a mentor to children with incarcerated siblings or parents. “Christ Church Greenwich’s grant is incredibly helpful to Family ReEntry’s youth programs, where we are able to help children who are impacted by the trauma of difficult family situations,” says Jeff Grant, Executive Director of Family ReEntry. FRE’s Youth Programs are 90% privately funded so every dollar makes a difference in these youth’s lives.
