ou are sealed by the Holy Spirit in Baptism, and marked as Christ’s own, forever…
– The Book of Common Prayer, page 308

“Holy Baptism,” according to The Book of Common Prayer, “is full initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into Christ’s Body the Church.”

Holy Baptism is most often administered as part of the celebration of Holy Eucharist at a major Sunday service or on a feast day. In the Episcopal Church, baptismal services are generally conducted:

  • at the Easter Vigil (on the evening of Holy Saturday)
  • on the day of Pentecost (the eighth Sunday after Easter)
  • on All Saint’s Day (November 1) or the Sunday immediately following All Saint’s Day
  • and at the Feast of the Baptism of our Lord (the first Sunday after the Epiphany on January 6)

Upcoming Baptism dates include:

  • Sunday, August 12th at 10:00 am
  • Sunday, September 3rd at 10:00 am
  • Sunday, November 4th at 9:15 am
  • Sunday, December 30th at 9:15 am
  • Sunday, January 13th (2019) at 9:15 am

Each candidate for Holy Baptism is sponsored by one or more baptized persons, and the sponsors of infants are referred to as godparents. Because Holy Baptism is a rite of “full initiation” into the Church community, the newly baptized are immediately eligible to receive Communion, even as infants.

The prayer book further notes, “The bond which God establishes in Baptism is indissoluble.”
