Confirmation Program Information
enewin these your servants the covenant you made with them at their Baptism.

Our Confirmation program prepares interested 7th and 8th grade students for the rite of Confirmation, a liturgy in which baptized Christians affirm their faith and make a mature, public commitment to a life in Christ. Each spring, candidates for Confirmation come before the bishop to renew the promises that parents and godparents made on their behalf at their baptism. The bishop lays hands on the head of each confirmand in turn, praying to God for the Holy Spirit to empower and sustain them.
OverviewThe goal of our Confirmation program is to deepen the faith of our 7th and 8th grade youth and to be present with them as they progress on their journey toward spiritual maturity. Our program is grounded in teaching the basic tenets of the Christian faith and the Episcopal tradition, but we also want it to be a safe place for youth to raise their questions and doubts, to struggle and wrestle as they engage their faith and its meaning in their lives. Our classes and events provide for lively discussion, experience of different ministries, and opportunities to form relationships with each other and the church in Christian fellowship.
This year, our confirmation program will run from late September through April or May (depending on the date we are given for Confirmation by the Diocese). Our program kicks-off on Sunday, September 27 during the 9:15 am worship service, and we will hold a brief introductory meeting for students and parents immediately following that service. In general, classes will meet for an hour and a half on Sunday afternoons twice a month from 2:00-3:30 p.m. and will be taught by Interim Youth Minister Chris Edwards and our new Curate, the Rev’d Andrew Moore.

Program CurriculumThis year, we will be using the “Confirm Not Conform” curriculum published by Forward Movement. This is an excellent program focused on engaging students to examine and test their faith in a safe atmosphere where questions and doubt are not only OK, they are encouraged. Additionally, the course will cover some basic elements of our common life in the church: the sacraments (with a special focus on Baptism and the Eucharist), the Bible, The Book of Common Prayer and the Anglican/Episcopal tradition, as well as an emphasis on Christian life in the Body of Christ both within the church and in the world. Students are also required to complete a certain number of service hours within Christ Church Greenwich ministries and in service of the broader community.
The cost for the 2015-2016 Confirmation program year is $100 per student and can be paid online after submitting registration or billed at a later date.
