I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
– Psalm 139:14
On April 4, 2018 we had a second round of CCG’s Team Building Workshop with our lovely girl choristers. We started out with a talk about self-confidence and body image.
We live in a society where people of all ages, especially young girls, are constantly bombarded with messages of what we “should” look like or how we “should” be feeling. There are so many different factors that contribute to the insecurity and doubt that creep in as they are growing up. Society constantly tells girls to be beautiful, as if that is the most important thing they can be.
I feel strongly that it is important we equip our girls with not only a space to talk about these topics, but also tools on how to work through them. By giving them a space to ask questions and share their own experiences, it gives them the opportunity to feel empowered in their own skin along with a community of other girls.
In our Team Building Workshop the girls were given an opportunity to create their own “Brave Girl Board”, where they put inspirational quotes and stickers for a daily reminder of who they are and the importance of being confident in their own skin.
God created each and every one of us in His image and for a unique purpose. It is my mission at Christ Church to remind each of these wonderful young girls of this important truth!
Just be yourself, let people see the real, imperfect, flawed, quirky, weird, beautiful and magical person that you are!
