The Becoming Beloved Community Film Group will watch the 90 minute documentary, “My Name is Pauli Murray,” on Tuesday, March 8, 7 p.m. in the Dogwood Book and Gift Store Mezzanine, followed by a discussion.  Pauli Murray (1910-1985) was a human rights activist, lawyer, poet, Black and LGBTQ+ community member — and the first African American person perceived as a woman to be ordained an Episcopal priest.  As a civil rights lawyer, her work was the basis of important social justice and anti-discrimination laws.  Her writings were part of Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s Supreme Court case that extended the Equal Protection Clause to women.  The film is an inspiring tribute to one of the most influential people of the 20th century.
