Living as Children of Light.

Ephesians 5:8

At Christ Church Greenwich, we believe that children are full members of our church community and joyfully welcome their presence among us. We believe that children begin their spiritual journeys at a very early age, and we act in partnership with parents and our worship community to create an engaging, nurturing environment for Christian formation.

As the old saying goes, “it takes a village to raise a child,” and we want to be part of your village. We have a wide range of volunteers who are dedicated to nourishing the spiritual lives of children. From clergy, to youth volunteers, to Sunday School teachers, to other parents, there are a variety of people here who are dedicated to showing children God’s love and support.

I would be delighted to meet you and your family.

The Rev. Abby VanderBrug
Director of Children & Family Ministries

What you can expect on Sunday morning…

Childcare

We provide childcare in our Nursery School for young children (birth to 3 years old) from 9am to 12:15pm. Leticia Elejade and Carlos Ortiz (better known as Leti and Papi) have been providing childcare at Christ Church Greenwich for more than 24 years, and they are loved by one and all.

Children’s Chapel

At 9am in the Chapel, we offer a special children’s service modeled after the traditional Eucharist. Parents are welcome to drop off their children beginning at 8:50am. Children return to the Sanctuary at the Offertory and sit with their parents. At the end of the service, children are invited to follow the Children’s Cross to the Nursery School for Sunday School, while parents can attend an adult formation session.

Communion

We welcome you and your children to come to the Lord’s Table to receive communion in the form of the bread and/or wine. If you or your child desire to receive a blessing instead from the priest, please fold your arms across your chest at the altar rail. Gluten-free bread is also available for those desire.

Sunday School

From 10:10 to 11am, children are offered their own Christian formation opportunity in the Nursery School, where we go deeper into learning with smaller groups. Children age 3 through 1st grade use the “Godly Play” curriculum – a Montessori-based program that uses simple figures to teach the basics of Christianity through wonder and story. 2nd through 5th graders use a curriculum that is focused on the Lectionary passage of the day, learning to read and digest Bible passages in a fun learning environment.
