At-home resources for the Third Sunday in Lent
Today’s Reading:

Then God spoke all these words:

I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery; you shall have no other gods before me.

You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquity of parents, to the third and the fourth generation of those who reject me, but showing steadfast love to the thousandth generation of those who love me and keep my commandments.

You shall not make wrongful use of the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not acquit anyone who misuses his name.

Remember the sabbath day, and keep it holy. For six days you shall labour and do all your work. But the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God; you shall not do any work—you, your son or your daughter, your male or female slave, your livestock, or the alien resident in your towns. For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but rested the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day and consecrated it.

Honor your father and your mother, so that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.

You shall not murder.

You shall not commit adultery.

You shall not steal.

You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or male or female slave, or ox, or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.

–Exodus 20:1-17

For Pre-K – Grade 1: The 10 Best Ways

It’s one of my favorite stories! Wait, do I say that every week? Really, this is such a good one. God did not give us the 10 easy things to do. God gave us the 10 best ways to live. They are hard, perhaps they are even impossible. But, we are supposed to try because they show us the way, like stones mark for us a path.

Don’t forget to grab your popsicle sticks and pipe cleaner from your worship bag to make our craft this week.

For Grades 2-5: The Way to Walk

Grab your BCP (pg. 815) to learn about how we pray for our entire human family and your Bible (Exodus chapter 20) to hear how God showed Moses the way to walk when they were lost. How do we follow these examples today? We learn that these are not 10 ways to be perfect, or 10 ways easy things to do, but 10 ways that bring us closer to God.

Craft Activity

10 Best Ways to Live

Grab the 10 popsicle sticks from your worship bag and write down the 10 Best Ways to Live on them. On the back, you can write down a way that you are already doing that, or a way that you hope to do better at in order to get closer to God. The 10 Best Ways are:

1. Don’t Serve Other Gods
2. Make no Idols to worship
3. Be serious when you say my name
4. Keep the Sabbath day holy
5. Honor your parents.
6. Don’t kill
7. Don’t break your marriage
8. Don’t steal
9. Don’t lie
10. Don’t even want what others have.
