As eyewitness to the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the Rev. Dr. Stuart Hoke ran from the blazing towers to his workplace at Trinity Church Wall Street where he conducted an extemporaneous service of scripture, prayer and hymnody until the first tower’s collapse. His reflections on the redemptive love of the Almighty during that hour of terror, and within the days and months to come, is testimony to the Spirit working through us “in sighs and groans too deep for words.” Stuart now resides in Arkansas. Ordained in 1972, he has worked in a variety of ministries. In 2012, he retired after eight years as Executive Assistant to the Rector of Trinity Wall Street in New York City. Currently he serves as Interim Rector of St. Mark’s Church, Little Rock; and continues an extensive ministry of recovery throughout the Episcopal Church.
