Sundays (begins SEptember 22)
6:30 – 8:00 pm
led by the Rev’d Andrew Kryzak
The Book of Ecclesiastes begins with the doleful assertion Vanitas vanitatum omnia vanitas – Vanity of vanities! All is vanity – and ends with an injunction: “Fear God, and keep his commandments; for that is the whole duty of everyone.” In between is an extended meditation on humanity, God, and the meaning of the good life. If, as your humble curate often suggests, a good theology depends upon a well-founded anthropology, then Ecclesiastes is a necessary element of any thinking person’s biblical understanding.
As always, a rigorous look at the text itself will be paired with a wide-ranging conversation about the consolations of faith in the present day. All are invited and encouraged to bring their own Bible (although extra Bibles are always available).
