Welcoming The Rev’d Terry Elsberry as Priest Associate

We are pleased to welcome back an old friend to Christ Church Greenwich, The Rev’d Terence L. (Terry) Elsberry.  Many of us fondly remember Terry’s wonderful service here as Associate Rector from 1986-1994.  This September, he will be returning as Priest Associate supporting our incoming Interim Rector and our existing Clergy.

Terry has had a distinguished career of service and ministry.  He recently retired as the Rector of St. Matthew’s Church in Bedford, NY, where he served for the last 23 years.  After being ordained at Virginia Theological Seminary, he served as Assistant Minister at St. John’s Church in Washington, DC before coming to Christ Church.  Previously, he worked in corporate communications.

His board memberships have included the Episcopal Charities of New York, the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, the Chaplaincy Board for Northern Westchester Hospital, and the Milbank and Woodland foundations.  Terry is a member of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, and served as Chairman of the Saw Mill Inter-Parish Council and as Dean of the Saw Mill Clericus.

In 2009 Terry received the annual Episcopal Diocese of New York award for outstanding service to the diocese for his dedication to hospitals and civic institutions, and for his service to Episcopal Charities. He was the recipient of the Antioch Baptist Church “Conscience of the Community” Community Service Award in 2017.

Terry has written several books, from a biography of Queen Marie of Romania, to The Bible in 60 Minutes, to The Power of Doing the Right Thing.  Married to Nancy Olds Elsberry, he is the father of four daughters, and has nine grandchildren.
