John the Evangelist Window
Created by Heaton, Butler & Bayne from London, England. The memorial inscription reads: “In memorium - members of this parish who were also brethren of the Masonic Fraternity - who having finished their course in faith - do now rest from their labors - so Mote (sic)it be presented by Acacia Lodge No. 85, A.F.&A.M.”
John the Evangelist is pictured holding a book and quill - in honor of his Gospel writings. This window, similar to John the Baptist window, has several Masonic symbols included in the design. At the top is a Mason’s mallet and rule and at the bottom a mason’s trowel. (The Windows of Christ Church by William E. Van Brunt, Jr.)
Shed upon thy Church, we beseech thee, O Lord, the brightness of thy light; that we, being illumined by the teaching of thine apostle and evangelist John, may so walk in the light of thy truth, that we may at length attain to the fullness of life everlasting; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
