Teen boys with changing voices
Christ Church nurtures boys’ changing voices while building their musicianship. From the outset they are treated the same as the seasoned professional singers who mentor and sing with them, and rapidly build their confidence so they are able to make a full contribution to the choir. The key part of their musical development is achieved through quickly prepared services of Choral Evensong on Thursday evenings. That service is followed by a rehearsal for upcoming performances.
Boys with changing voices are regularly appraised to ensure that their singing remains healthy, and that they are in the correct voice section (alto, tenor, or bass). Most teen boys have sung as trebles, but membership is open to other boys with changing voices through a simple audition. The teen boys meet from 6 until 8pm on Thursday evenings, and sing with the other groups on Sunday morning or evening most weeks.
